NMU’s Helm named GLIAC Women’s Swim and Dive Athlete of the Week

BAY CITY — Northern Michigan University swimmer Rachel Helm has had a stellar college career so far, and on Tuesday, she added another award to her trophy shelf as she was named GLIAC Women’s Swim and Dive Athlete of the Week. This the first time she’s won the award this year and sixth overall.

Helm took first in all eight races she swam last weekend in a dual meet against Findlay at the PEIF. On Friday, she was on the winning 125-yard medley and 125-yard freestyle relays, while also winning two individual events, the 25 and 75 backstrokes.

Saturday was also a successful one for Helm as she picked up four more victories. She helped the Wildcats win the 200 medley and 200 free relays, while also finishing first in the 100 and 200 back with times of 56.41 and 2:02.50. Both of those times gave her a NCAA B Cut qualifying time.

NMU heads on the road this weekend for a triangular meet against Minnesota State Moorhead and Northern State in Fargo, N.D.
