Ishpeming, Munising wrestlers win individual district titles

MUNISING — Several other area wrestlers reached championship matches at the MHSAA Division 4 individual wrestling regional at Munising on Saturday.

Top-four finishers advance to a regional at Charlevoix on Saturday.

Ishpeming’s Jaegar Wilson won the 119-pound division with a narrow 11-10 victory over Deven Ellison of Rudyard for his title.

Teammate Alaric Martin earned a 4-0 victory over Max Hinkle of Charlevoix in the finale at 171, while Richard Sneller Jr. of Munising won the 285 division with a pin of Wyatt Massie of Bark River-Harris at 1:21 in his final.

Others advancing to regionals include Travis O’Neill of Newberry, who was third at 119; Noah Gielecki of Newberry, who was third at 125; Tony Williams of Manistique, who was third at 130; Jacob Gribbell of Newberry, who was fourth at 145; Devin Moore of Munising, who was third at 152; Dawson Delongchamp of Ishpeming, who was fourth at 152; Cameron Depew of Newberry, who was fourth at 160; Andre Walsh of Ishpeming, who was third at 189; Lance Bowler of Newberry, who was second at 215; and Isaac Brewster of Manistique, who was third at 285.

Redmen, Miners wrestlers advance

At the Division 2 individual district at Gaylord on Saturday, Marquette’s Joe Lagrou finished second at 119 and Griffin Moore third at 130 to advance to a regional this Saturday back in Gaylord against the Goodrich district.

In the Division 3 individual district held at Grayling, Negaunee’s Leo Helppi finished as runner-up at 189 to advance to the Kalkaska regional against the Freeland district.
