MARQUETTE — Sophomore outside hitter Leticia Antunes of Northern Michigan University has been named North Division Player of the Week in the GLIAC.

Antunes earned the distinction after the Wildcats won all four of their matches at the Wildcat Open to run their season record to 8-0 as the only team in the league with a perfect mark.

One of NMU’s victories was over the No. 1-ranked team in NCAA Division II, Minnesota-Duluth, in four sets on Friday night.

Antunes, a resident of Florianopolis, Brazil, was one of three Northern players named to the All-Tournament team for an event held at Vandament Arena in Marquette over this past weekend. The other two NMU players named were senior Autumn Monsma and junior Sarah Kuehn.

Antunes led the Wildcats with 64 kills — 32 each day — in the four matches while she added 42 digs. Against UMD, she also led NMU with 21 kills and had 10 digs and a pair of blocks.

With 114 kills already, she leads Northern and is third in the GLIAC, while her 3.80 kills per set is fourth in the conference.

The GLIAC South Division Player of the Week is senior Staci Brower of Grand Valley State, who led the Lakers to a 4-0 weekend at the Cavalier Classic in North Canton, Ohio.

NMU hits the road for its GLIAC opener at Lake Superior State at 6:30 p.m. Friday before traveling to Saginaw Valley State for a 2 p.m. Saturday match.

Then the Wildcats come back home to take on Michigan Tech at 7 p.m. next Tuesday at Vandament Arena.
