Northern Michigan University women’s track goes to Spartan Invite at Michigan State

MARQUETTE — Northern Michigan University takes part in its third outdoor meet of the women’s track season at the Spartan Invitational at Michigan State University in East Lansing today and Saturday.

Some field events will take place this afternoon, with the majority of the meet to be held all day Saturday at the Ralph Young Field on the MSU campus.

Like the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, North Carolina, last weekend, this meet will include strong NCAA Division I competition along with other NCAA Division II schools.

NMU was also third at the St. Norbert Twilight Meet in De Pere, Wisconsin, on March 29, while team scores weren’t kept in Raleigh.

The Wildcats are ranked in the top 50 in D-II in five events after last weekend, led by senior Ine Mylle 20th in the triple jump after a leap of 38 feet, 5 inches, less than five inches from the outdoor national meet provisional qualifying mark.

Ranked 23rd in the 4-by-400-meter relay is the quartet of sophomore Sydney McPeters and juniors Lynsey Collins of Escanaba, Paige Dutcher and Shayla Huebner, a Marquette Senior High School graduate. They clocked 3 minutes, 52.58 seconds for the second-fastest time in school history.

Dutcher is 43rd in the 400 after a 57.71-second time at Raleigh, while Huebner is 44th in the 800 with a 2:16.12 and senior Kieren Becker is also 44th in the 1,500 at 4:40.71.

Junior Jenna Long contributed two individual wins at St. Norbert, taking the 100 in 12.58 and 200 in 26.42.
