Dorothy M. Inch

Dorothy Inch

MARQUETTE, MI – Dorothy May Inch, age 96, lifelong Marquette resident, entered eternal life July 23, 2017, at her home, in the loving care of her family and caregivers of Upper Peninsula Home Health and Hospice.

Born December 6, 1920, in Marquette, a daughter of Albert and Emma (Clement) Bastien, Dorothy was raised in Marquette and attended St. John’s School during her elementary years, later graduating from Bishop Baraga High School, Class of 1938. Her school years were filled with the usual pursuits of participating in school plays, singing in the choir both at school and church, and playing violin in the school orchestra. Following graduation, being too young to work, Dorothy took courses in shorthand, which prepared her for employment later in life. Her first job was a cashier at the F.W. Woolworth Company, a large retail department store formerly located on Washington Street.

On April 24, 1946, Dorothy was united in marriage to John R. “Jack” Inch at St. Peter Cathedral and, together, the couple made their first home on Washington Street and later Palms Street, where they raised their children. While her children were growing up, Dorothy was a stay at home mom and only re-entered the workforce once they were a little older and more responsible. Dorothy then began a career as a stenographer with the State of Michigan, working for the Vocational Rehabilitation Program. She retired at age 65. Both she and Jack enjoyed their retirement, traveling extensively around the country visiting family and friends and going on cruises. Additionally, Dorothy enjoyed walking, hiking, roller and ice skating, playing cards, bowling, and playing a little golf. Dorothy was a member of the former St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, currently a member of St. Peter Cathedral, and formerly belonged to the Marquette Moose Lodge, Marquette Eagles Club, and Marquette Senior Center.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Mary (the late L. Stan) Buckmaster of Marquette, Robert Inch of Marquette, James (Darlene) Inch of Negaunee Township, and Susan (Joseph) Ramos of Madison Heights; her grandchildren, John (Lisa) Inch, Lori (Jesse) Dehlin, Kari (Will) Belanger, Andy (Amber) Buckmaster, Dottie (Aaron) Ruhlig, Elizabeth Ramos, Jason Bennett; great-grandchild -ren, Bailey and Dylan Inch, Nick Dehlin, Owen and Eli Belanger, Sean and Paige Buckmaster.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Jack in 1993; her siblings and their spouses, Mary Lou (Paul) Mlinar, Clement (Margaret) Bastien, and Paul (Verge) Bastien.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Karen Eldevick, Dr. Jennifer Dehlin and staff, and UP Home Health and Hospice for their professional, compassionate care, and for the many kindnesses extended to the family.

Honoring Dorothy’s request, no public services will be held. Interment was made at Northland Chapel Gardens.

Memorials may be directed to UP Home Health and Hospice.
