NEGAUNEE — The city of Negaunee has announced that it has taken possession of a new fire pumper. The pumper was ordered in 2022, for $701,204.00, from Reliant Fire Apparatus of Michigan (formerly Halt Fire, Inc.)
The pumper is a Pierce Enforcer PUC. According to the Pierce website, “the Pierce PUC is a modern tilt cab emergency response vehicle designed specifically for the response duties of today’s fire services now with capacities of up to 1,500 gallons per minute”.
“It was time. Our current pumper was over 28-years old and was to the point it could not be certified for use anymore,” said Negaunee Fire Chief Ned Cory.
This vehicle was chosen based on its ability to minimize vehicular space needed suppression systems, while maximizing space for equipment. It also offers the most complete single-source build, allowing for the vehicle to be more customized depending on what a department may need or want.
“All of this is possible due to the overwhelming support of the equipment millage by the Negaunee voters in 2020,” City Manager Nate Heffron said.
