M-123 resurfacing in Newberry starts Monday, July 6

NEWBERRY — The Michigan Department of Transportation is investing about $1.3 million to resurface M-123 in Newberry. The project will include cold milling, resurfacing, guardrail improvements and pavement markings, extending the lifespan of the roadway and increasing safety for motorists. Work will start Monday, July 6 and is expected to be completed by 
Friday, Sept. 25.

Whitmer makes appointments to boards and commissions 

MARQUETTE — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer recently announced appointments state boards and commissions recently. Several Upper Peninsula residents were among those named.  • Michigan Truck Safety Commission  Pete Torola, of Chassell, is a research engineer at Michigan Tech University. 30 years ago GWINN– Some 300 Gwinn residents were evacuated from their homes Tuesday evening after a man told police he’d wired a bomb to explode in his downtown apartment.
