MARQUETTE — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer recently announced appointments state boards and commissions recently. Several Upper Peninsula residents were among those named.  • Michigan Truck Safety Commission  Pete Torola, of Chassell, is a research engineer at Michigan Tech University. Municipalities earn environmental honors in 2025 Michigan Green Communities Challenge

MARQUETTE – Sixty-eight local governments across Michigan including several from the Upper Peninsula, have been recognized for their sustainability efforts and environmental leadership through their participation in the Michigan Green Communities Challenge. 30 years ago GWINN– Some 300 Gwinn residents were evacuated from their homes Tuesday evening after a man told police he’d wired a bomb to explode in his downtown apartment. A state police bomb squad from Grayling entered the building at 111 North Pine Street at about 2:30 a.m. but did not find an explosive device.
