US 2 resurfacing project starting

ESCANABA — Starting Monday, the Michigan Department of Transportation will be resurfacing more than 19 miles of US 2, from the east end of Rapid River to east of Isabella, in Delta County.

The project, which will cost about $4.5 million, will include asphalt cold milling, asphalt repairs, crack sealing, paver placed surface seal, shoulder aggregate and pavement markings. The project includes a three-year pavement performance warranty.

The project is estimated to be finished in mid-August. While resurfacing is underway, motorists should expect single-lane closures with traffic regulators.

The investment is estimated to directly and indirectly support 38 jobs. This work is expected to extend the lifespan of the roadway and increase safety for motorists.
