NEGAUNEE – The Mining Journal proved here Tuesday night that in addition to supplying the news, it can supply a pretty good brand of basketball. Guided by most valuable player Bruce Heisel The Mining Journal won the Class E title in the 32nd Annual Negaunee Invitational Basketball Tournament with a 70-52 win over Simply Sensational of Ishpeming. Heisel poured in 31 points and Doug Heslip added 11 to guide the Journal. Nate Trudgeon netted 12 points for Simply Sensational.

MARQUETTE COUNTY – Henry J. Vondett, Marquette, regional fish biologist for the Michigan Conservation Department, will speak at the next meeting of the Marquette County Chapter of the Michigan Audubon Society on the introduction of coho salmon in the Great Lakes. He also will discuss the state’s steelhead programs and plans for increasing the size of steelhead runs on Upper Peninsula streams. A series of slides will be shown with his lecture.
