MARQUETTE – No more close calls. Championship dreams became reality Sunday for the Marquette American Legion Bantam AA hockey team, which, after three previous appearances in the national tournament, won the Tier II National Championship with a stirring 2-1 victory over Grand Forks South (N.D.) at Lakeview Arena. Alan Swanson’s power play goal at the 13:35 mark of the third period gave the Legion its margin of victory. But the outcome would remain in doubt under goaltender Nick Junttila deflected a final shot in the games waning moments. “I thought the game was over and they still got one more shot,” he said. “Thank God it hit me.”
