‘Signs of Spring’

Marquette City Manager Karen Kovacs observes the community art exhibit, “Signs of Spring.” The exhibit is presented by the City of Marquette Office of Arts & Culture. The artwork is made by local residents inspired by the blue-spotted salamander and other signs of spring. “Signs of Spring” is part of Salamander Days, an awareness campaign presented by the city of Marquette, Superior Watershed Partnership, and other local organizations and individuals in the Marquette community supporting the migration of the blue-spotted salamander on Presque Isle Park. “This is a really fun way to bring attention to a very serious and very real initiative and cause. Putting it in a form of art is a really unique way to speak to the people and communicate that message,” Kovacs said. The works of art are on display at Marquette City Hall, located at 300 W. Baraga Ave., and can be viewed from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday until June 10. (Journal photo by Taylor Johnson)
