Police: Fugitive in custody after high-speed vehicle pursuit

Phillips

MARQUETTE — A woman who was sought as a wanted fugitive is back in custody, according to the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office.

At 8 a.m. Wednesday, officers located Chenoa Rae Phillips, 19, driving through K.I. Sawyer. She fled from officers after a traffic stop was attempted, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

Phillips led officers on a vehicle pursuit lasting several miles through Forsyth, West Branch and Sands townships, with speeds upward of 99 miles per hour, police said.

After officers deployed stop sticks, Phillips’ vehicle came to a stop at M-553 and Taylor Road in Sands Township.

There were no injuries reported. The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Forsyth Township Police Department.

The sheriff’s department in October asked the public’s assistance in locating Phillips, who was taken into custody on April 13 and lodged in the Marquette County Jail on charges related to absconding from felony bond, removing her GPS tether and resisting and obstructing an officer, police said.

On Oct. 18, Phillips was released from jail with a personal recognizance bond on the condition she be released directly to treatment with a GPS tether.

On Oct. 26, Phillips removed her tether and fled the treatment facility, according to police.

Phillips is lodged in the Marquette County Jail. The sheriff’s office will send a report to the Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office seeking additional charges against Phillips, including fleeing and eluding, according to the release.
