NCTA part of GivingTuesday

MARQUETTE — The North Country Trail Association is involved in this year’s GivingTuesday, which was created in 2012 as a day that encourages people to do good on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. On Giving Tuesday in 2019, the NCTA community raised more than $70,000, and with a match from a donor, a total of $91,000 was raised in one day for the North Country National Scenic Trail. On Tuesday, the North Country Trail Association has 24 hours to raise $25,000 to meet this challenge. MARQUETTE — The Northern Michigan University Alumni Association Board of Directors is accepting nominations for its annual alumni awards program through Dec. 31. Graduates will be honored during the 2021 Homecoming celebration in four categories: Distinguished Alumni, Alumni Achievement, Outstanding Young Alumni and Alumni Service. The Distinguished Alumni Award is the highest honor. It recognizes graduates who have made transformative contributions to their disciplines, professions or society. Advent events set at St. Michael

MARQUETTE — St. Michael Catholic Church in Marquette will be offering the community a Sunday evening faith opportunity at 7 p.m. this Sunday in celebration of the Advent Season. On this date, there will be worship of contemplative reflection, music, and prayer built around the liturgy of Vespers, or evening prayer. St. Michael’s will also offer three other Advent Vespers, also at 7 p.m. on Sundays. These will be on Dec. 6, 13, and 20, each one offering a unique message centered on this season of hope. Planning group meets on Zoom

MARQUETTE — Tuesday’s Planning Commission meeting will be held virtually with commission members and staff attending remotely through Zoom video conferencing. This meeting will be streamed on the City of Marquette YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/CityofMarquetteGov).
