NCT meeting set for Tuesday
MARQUETTE — The North Country Trail Hikers January General Membership Meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Community Room of the Peter White Public Library.
Chris Kovala, Environmental Coordinator, Forest Service, Ottawa National Forest, Kenton Ranger District, will do a presentation on the use of mules from Wyoming last fall (2018) in the McCormick Wilderness to help with repair of the White Deer Lake Trail.
Afterwards, the NCT Hikers Chapter will present the 2019 NCTA Chapter Honor Awards to local member who loyalty, commitment and hard work to the local chapter’s chosen activities. All volunteers from 2019 will be honored, those who helped maintain the trail as well as those who helped promote the Trail though outreach events, serving on the chapter Board of Directors, and more.
Everyone is welcome to attend to learn about the North Country National Scenic Trail as it traverses the central U.P.

Doctor is in: PWPL to host session
MARQUETTE — At noon Wednesday, T. Michael Kates, DO, will discuss osteopathic manipulation in this month’s Meet the Physician session in the Peter White Public Library’s Shiras Room on the upper level.
Dr. Kates is a UPHS Family Medicine Resident Physician, having earned his doctor’s degree at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. He says that health is “a longterm process that isn’t the same for everyone. I enjoy helping people find the process for themselves and navigate the sometimes confusing world of healthcare. Some people want to make big changes, and other people can just make small changes, and others just need help maintaining the health they have.”

Weeknight Music�at library
MARQUETTE — Celebrate Winter and the New year with some Weeknight Music featuring Under This Cold Sky at 7 p.m. Wednesday, in the Peter White Library�s Community Room on the lower level.
The Upper Peninsula of Michigan is a place unlike any other, with beautiful and pristine wilderness juxtaposed against long snowy winters. What began as the songwriting project of Steve Hooper, Under This Cold Sky, is a tribute to both the land and culture of the U.P., combining traditional and modern folk musical styles along with lyric-intensive songwriting and storytelling.
For this concert, Steve, on guitar and vocals, will be accompanied by his brother Kyle Hooper, on piano and vocals, and friend Jack Laurila on drums
