Don’t vets deserve better?

To the Journal editor: I feel compelled to weigh in on their plight. Our Vets have put everything on the line for us and our country. Many have been exposed to life-threatening situations, serious injuries and chemicals such as Agent Organe resulting in life-long problems. As a result, I am rallying the public to get involved with an injustice that would befall our brave vets. There is a proposal to build a new $97.6 million Jacobetti Veterans Home in Marquette. The funding for this project includes $63.4 million in federal funds and $34.2 million in state funds. The ...

High court to decide

To the Journal editor: Does former President Trump have presidential immunity for illegal acts committed while in office? That is the question which Special Counsel Jack Smith has asked the US Supreme Court to decide. The court, while not writing an opinion on the matter. did request Trump’s lawyers respond to Mr. Smith’s question by December 20th, 2023. If the supreme court decides that there is such a thing as presidential immunity then the court is setting a precedent for all former, present and future presidents. The terrifying truth of presidential immunity is that it ...

GOP blamed

To the Journal editor: “Those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.” — Winston Churchill We are at it again. Or should I say “They” are at it again. And we know who “They” are. There were nine separate committee investigations into Hillary Clinton and Benghazi. Nine. The FBI held their own investigation. The State Departments Inspector General’s office conducted their own investigation. All nine congressional committees were chaired by a Republican. All nine committees had a Republican majority. None of them found any wrongdoing by Secretary ...

Modest proposal

To the Journal editor: Consider this: A parsimonious adaptation to Enbridge’s Line 5 tunnel project. Line 5A (above the straits) would become a propane only pipeline. The fractionating facility in Superior, Wis., would separate the propane and send that to existing storage tanks in Rapid  River via existing pipeline. These tanks could be expanded to take advantage of cost averaging (which good corporate neighbor Enbridge could pass along as savings to customers). Line 5A could be extended eastward the short distance (50 miles or so) to the Kincheloe area. This would supply ...

A Christmas plea

To the Journal editor: We were given the garden of Eden. We disobeyed and were ejected by the creator. We were given the earth. We are being ejected by the creation/creator. Isn’t it time that we obey the creator and nurture the creation so we can stay? We are flawed but forgiven so we can shake it off and try again. Try again. Amen.

Vets assisted

To the Journal editor: Since 2011 the non-profit organization, 906 Warrior Relief Fund, has pursued their mission to provide assistance to active duty military, guard reserve and veterans in a time of crisis across the Upper Peninsula. An example of their support was shown recently to a local elderly veteran. His bills were mounting and his health deteriorating both contributing to mounting stress. Time was running out to find a fix before finances were in worse shape. All along, the veteran was trying to keep up with his growing medical issues and remain living independently. A ...
