Northern Sanitation and Peninsula Sanitation have agreed to reduce disposal rates for the day. The township and city contributions will cut residents’ disposal costs in half. 30 years ago MARQUETTE — Although some of the deer living at Marquette’s Presque Isle Park have been shot illegally in the city limits, plenty of whitetails remain in the park population. A recent survey turned up about 50 whitetails at the park. At least 25 of them spent the winter in the park, including five antlered bucks. An 8-pointer that is now almost 3 years old is the only remaining one of the three 8-pointers that roamed the park last fall. The herd includes one other 3-year-old buck, the one with the crooked neck, and he only had 3-point antlers due to his deformity. ...

The Michigan Department of Agriculture is enforcing restrictions on dogs coming into Michigan from Texas due to the serious nature of the outbreak, according to the Marquette County Humane Society. 30 years ago MARQUETTE — A public demonstration of what’s being called the world’s longest pendulum will be offered by the Northern Michigan University Physics Club in the Superior Dome from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday.
