Angeli, Sonderegger take MBLP seats

MARQUETTE — Edward Angeli and John Sonderegger were elected to the two open seats on the Marquette Board of Light and Power in Tuesday’s general election, according to unofficial election results. Angeli received 4,669 votes, while John Sonderegger received 3,679 votes. Candidates John Braamse and Matthew Luttenberger recieved 2,656 votes and 2,038 votes, respectively. Election results are unofficial until the Marquette County Board of Canvassers meets this afternoon.

Multiple millages pass in Marquette County

MARQUETTE — Marquette County voters passed more than a few millages in Tuesday’s election. Marquette Township Marquette Township residents voted 1,831-612 in favor of its library millage renewal, one mill reduced to 0.8916 mill by the required millage rollbacks, renewed in an amount not to exceed .8916 mill and levied for two years, 2020-2021 inclusive. The estimated revenue the township will collect in the first year is approximately $246,142. AP: Markkanen takes state Legislature’s 110th District seat

The Associated Press has reported unofficial election results show incumbent Republican 110th District State Rep. Greg Markkanen has garnered 58% of the vote with 100% precincts reporting. Markkanen received 25,805 votes, while Democratic candidate Janet Metsa garnered 18,463 votes for 41% of the total.

School board seats decided

MARQUETTE — Jennifer Ray and Jennifer Klipp won seats on the Marquette Area Public Schools Board of Education on Tuesday. They received 7,725 and 6,743 votes, respectively. The two MAPS board seats up for grabs are for six-year terms ending in 2026. Also receiving votes were Dan J. Audette with 5,485, Leigh Beth Freberg with 3,763 and Keith Glendon with 2,048. Mary Jo Paris-Johns, incumbent President Dawn Andrews and incumbent Trustee TJ Derwin won seats on the Gwinn Area Community Schools Board of Education. Zyburt re-elected as sheriff

Democratic Incumbent Marquette County Sheriff Greg Zyburt has won his bid for re-election for a four-year term, garnering 25,018 votes. His Republican challenger, Joseph Kozub, received 11,413 votes in Tuesday’s election for Marquette County Sheriff. Election results remain unofficial until the Marquette County Board of Canvassers meets later today.
