HUMBOLDT TWP. — Humboldt Township residents voted 83-15 Tuesday to renew the sanitation millage which will run from 2023 through 2026. The millage will be renewed at 1.5 mills, $1.50 per $1,000 of taxable value. The renewal will override the millage that had previously been reduced to 1.4916 mills, or $1.4916 per $1,000 of taxable value. The millage is expected to raise an estimated $48,893.91 within the first year of the renewal.
NEGAUNEE — Negaunee Township residents approved the renewal of the fire protection millage by a wide margin Tuesday. Residents voted 636-117 to levy the 2.5 mill, or $2.50 per $1,000 on all real property value, over the next 20 years during Tuesday’s primary elections. The millage funds the fire protection services within the township. It’s estimated that the renewal of the millage will generate approximately $397,461 in the first year.
REPUBLIC — Republic Township voted overwhelmingly to renew its operating millage Tuesday. In a 186-87 vote, residents renewed the current 4.9088 mills, or $4.9088 per $1,000 of taxable value. The millage will remain in place until 2025. The taxes collected during the first year of this renewal are expected to raise an estimated $331,630.
SKANDIA TOWNSHIP — Voters in Skandia Township approved a renewal of its emergency services millage by an overwhelming margin. The 2.5 mill renewal, or $2.50 per $1,000 of taxable property value, will be levied over a period of 5 years. The millage is expected to raise approximately $72,175.68 in the first year.
