Rotary Club of Marquette aids local groups

Great Lakes Recovery Centers were recently the recipients of two grants. From the golf outing proceeds, a contribution was made towards a basketball court in the adolescent treatment center in Negaunee. This gift is in memory of the late Rotarian John Kivela. Through a matching district grant written by club member Sally Davis, $3,000 was awarded to replace a greenhouse which was destroyed in a wind storm. Pictured with Davis are Amy Poirier and Greg Toutant. Below, President Frank Lenz of the Marquette Rotary Club displays a ceremonial check for $50,000 representing the proceeds of the annual golf outing held last June at the Marquette Country Club. Major sponsors for the event were Casa Calabria, Eagle Mine, Jon’s Auto and Superior Collision. Sponsors were Big Boy, M-Bank, North Country Disposal, Ojibwa Casino, Subway, UP Health Systems, VAST and Wealth Strategy Group. Contributions were presented to the YMCA of Marquette County, Feed America program sponsored by the Salvation Army and Roteract, Willow Farms Therapeutic Riding Center, Trillium House, Great Lakes Recovery Centers and the Downtown Development Authority towards a fund to maintain the Phil Niemisto pocket park, and “Do It for Daniel,” a suicide prevention program.
