ROCK RIVER — Troopers from the Negaunee Township post of the Michigan State Police are investigating a fatal house fire in Alger County.

The fire took place at N5114 ET Road, with troopers sent to the scene at about 1 a.m. Saturday after firefighters with the Rock River Township Fire Department discovered human remains inside the residence. The structure was destroyed as a result of the fire.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined but foul play is not suspected. The name of the deceased will be released once positive identification is made.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by detectives with the Michigan State Police Fire Investigator Unit, the Rock River Township Fire Department and Alger County EMS.
