NMU ensemble concert planned

MARQUETTE — The Northern Michigan University Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of James A. Strain, will present its fall chamber music concert. The performance will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Reynolds Recital Hall. There is no admission charge.

The ensemble is composed of students who perform on various kinds of drums, vibes, xylophones, marimbas and timpani. The concert features a wide variety of musical styles. It will include Japanese taiko, hip-hop, a Chinese-inspired composition, an arrangement of an opera overture by Gioachino Rossini, music for hand clappers and two new pieces by American composers.

The Marquette Area Public Schools Percussion Ensemble will also perform one piece.
