Talbacka, Koski lead Crossfit 906

NEGAUNEE – Natalie Talbacka and Kim Koski each doubled to help Crossfit 906 ease past Jasper Ridge Brewery 14-12 on the opening night in Class A of the Iron Range Women’s Softball League on Wednesday.

Jasper lost despite getting homers by Taylor Watters, who went 4 for 5, and Sarah Rautio, who was 3 of 4.

In other Class A action, Buck’s Party Store stormed past Screened Image 23-8 as Libby Nelson, Liz Hamming and Nicki Christensen each had three hits for the winners. Nelson had a homer among her hits.

SI’s Stacie Kruse, Hannah Holma and Nicki Schultz also had three hits apiece.

Venice’s 1 shut down the Negaunee Eagles 9-1 as the winners’ Abbie Salisbury, Beth Christianson and Chelsie Wealton all had two hits and the Eagles’ Chastity Ellet was 3 for 3 with an RBI.

Jubilee Foods bested Sisters 15-7 as Jubilee’s Amanda Harlock had four hits and Sisters’ Anna Dompierre three.

Cognition Brewing Co. was recognized with a 28-13 victory over Cliffs Natural Resources. CBC’s Megan Reilly, who tripled, and Terri Tammelin each went 5 for 5 while Cliffs’ Cassy Sandberg was 4 for 4 with a pair of doubles.

In Class B, Martin Sports raced past Paradise 20-4 as the winners’ Jamie VanBuren was 4 for 4 with 2 RBIs, Michelle Gray was 4 for 5 with 4 RBIs, Veronica Slone was 2 for 3 with a homer and 4 RBIs and Ashley Helstein was 3 for 4 with a double.

Paradise’s Maria Stanaway, who tripled, and Kaylin Massie each went 2 for 3.

Quality Car Care dropped Honkala Construction 9-6 as QCC’s Gina Debelak and Brandi Petrocik were both 4 for 4.

Jess Taisto and Kara Szember each were 4 for 5 in Pasquali’s 16-4 victory over Jack’s Teepee 1. Jack’s Shari Mahoski was 3 for 3.

Venice 3 trumped Signs Unlimited 21-6 as the winners’ Kelly Delongchamp was 3 for 3 and teammate Caylie Gray tripled. Signs’ Paige Mannisto and Becca LaChappelle were each 2 for 3.

AAA Insurance scored the same 21-6 win over Dave’s Collision as Toni Enrietti homered and Heidi Verville cracked two triples for AAA and Dave’s Jamee Gobert homered.

In Class C, Yooper Shirts put on their deluxe hitting shoes in a 36-2 romp over Jack’s Teepee 2 as the winners’ Casey Dugan, Megan Dechambeau and Mary Bouchard all hit grand slam homers.

Marquette Embroidery doubled up Venice 2 10-5 as Angela Leece, who homered, and Carla Lovern each went 3 for 4 for ME while Venice’s Mara Marton and Ashley Dix each had a hit and scored a run.

Bertucci Construction nipped Xccelerated Fitness 13-12 as BC’s Emma Firby doubled and XF’s Ashley Rickert homered.

Rookie’s slid past Wooden Nickel 22-7 as Ashley Wanhala homered twice and Ally Solander once for the winners.

The Nickel’s Karen Wiegand doubled and rookie Brandi Tiemeyer was lauded for making multiple outs in the field.

U.P. Fabricating zoomed past Eastwood 19-14 as the the winners’ Valerie Prusi was 4 for 4 with a homer and Jessa Johnson tripled. Eastwood’s Ellen Sundberg collected two triples and a double while Cheryl Churack doubled twice.

Red Rock Lanes eased past Willey’s Tire Shop 11-8 as RRL’s Jordan Wixtrom was 4 for 4 and Elizabeth Koski 3 for 4. Willey’s Ashley Juchemich doubled.

Tino’s blew by Palomaki Family Chiropractic 26-6 as Tino’s Katie Rankinen was 3 for 4 with two homers and Josey Moyle homered. PFC’s Kathy Gischia was 3 for 3.
