Corcoran, Szember, Young lead Pasquali’s to B Division victory

NEGAUNEE — Andria Corcoran homered, Kara Szember tripled and Shelley Young doubled to lead Pasquali’s to a narrow 13-12 victory over Venice in Class B on the final night of the regular season in the Iron Range Women’s Softball League on Aug. 21.

Gabby Connors hit a home run and Jen Laurila a triple for Venice.

In another one-run game in “B,” Kaylee Major was 3 for 3 with the game-winning hit as Dave’s Collision posted a 9-8 win over Brogie’s, whose Hannah Salmi homered.

But it was Buster’s that won the division with a 13-1 record after a 27-12 victory over Quality Car Care.

The winners’ Mady Kontio and Hailey Fezatt each homered, while QCC’s Rhonda Williams was 4 for 4 with a triple.

Also in “B,” Maria Stanaway was 4 for 4 and Lynn Ball and Kathy Maynard each 3 for 4 as Paradise Bar rolled to a 20-6 win over Martin Sports, which saw Ellen Sundberg go 2 for 4 with a triple and Jamie VanBuren 2 for 3.

Loretta Willey and Casey Dugan both hit homers as Globe Printing defeated Signs Unlimited 10-4.

In Class A, Buck’s Party Store wrapped up the division title with an 18-7 win over Sisters and 15-11 victory over Cognition Brewing Co.

Against Sisters, Buck’s Debbie Zummak, who tripled and doubled, Libby Nelson, Sara Polini and Janet Koski all went 3 for 4.

Sisters’ Leah Dompierre was 4 for 4 and Angie Juidici 3 for 3 with a double, while Anna Noskey homered and Ashley Nylander tripled.

Against Cognition, Polini, who doubled, and Nelson both were 3 for 4 as teammate Abbie Watters homered.

Cognition’s Terri Tammelin was 3 for 5 and Tiah Pusakulich 2 for 4.

In another game involving Cognition, that team wrapped up second place at 12-2 with a 16-4 win over Jasper Ridge Brewery.

Cognition was led by Nicolette Schultz going 5 for 5 with a pair of doubles, though she had plenty of help.

Teammate Mandie Meyer was 4 for 5 with a double, Brigitte LaPointe 3 for 4 with a double, Terri Tammelin homered and Terri Todd tripled.

For Jasper Ridge, Ciara Kangas and Danielle Carlson each went 3 for 4, Kangas including a triple and Carlson a double.

In other “A” games, Abbie Salisbury was 5 for 5 while Chelsie Wealton tripled as Heritage Glove Repair took a 11-5 win over Tino’s, whose Taryn Moyle was 3 for 3 and Katie Rankinen had two hits.

Paige Yoho walloped three home runs to lead Screened Image/Venice 2 to a 25-8 win over Riverside Club.

In Class C, Jack’s Teepee wrapped up the division title with a perfect 13-0 record by felling U.P. Fabricating 26-9.

Hitting homers for the winners were Tina Maki, Megan Mattson, Macey Nault, Natalee Dobson, Cheryl Churack and Jordann Grigg.

UPF got a three-run homer from Val Prusi and regular homer from Rachael Mager.

OSS finished second at 11-3 with a 17-7 victory over Bertucci Construction. OSS’s Elaina Treloar, Amanda Phillipson and Mara Couch all homered while Kristen Utzman and Des Fernandes both tripled.

In other “C” action, Kathy Lapine went 4 for 4 while Livvie Wood was 3 for 3 and Chelsey Wunder, Mary Peterson and Toni Tikkanen each were 3 for 4 in Pineshears’ 23-7 win over River Rock Lanes.

Each of those Pineshears players hit a homer, except Wunder, who actually hit two. Also joining the roundtripper parade was teammate Chelsea Roberts.

River Rock was led by Emily Rushford going 3 for 3 and Shannon Revello 2 for 2.

Amy Williams, who doubled, Lindsey Williams and Brooke Bleckler all went 5 for 5 as Willey’s Tire Shop beat Palomaki Family Chiropractic 23-7.

In addition, Willey’s Miranda Cobb, who tripled, and Palomaki’s Liz Beauchamp both were 4 for 5.

In the other “C” game, the Negaunee Eagles won by forfeit over Marquette Embroidery.
