Marquette girls soccer tops Marinette Friday

By Journal Sports Staff

MARINETTE, Wis. — The Marquette Redettes girls soccer team continued its good start to the season as it rolled past Marinette (Wis.) 4-1 Friday night.

The Redettes were in control the majority of the game and got on the board first early in the opening half. Sara Iwanicki fired a high shot past the Marinette goalie to put Marquette up 1-0.

After Marinette answered back to tie the game, the Redettes used some strong defensively play to keep the Marines from taking the lead by consistently keeping the ball out of their zone. Marquette then went up 2-1 right before the half on a goal by Ivy Pickard.

The Redettes continued to pad their advantage further in the second half. Marquette picked up goals from Lauren Kurzawa and Sierra Pearson to seal the victory.

Marquette plays again Tuesday at Kingsford.
