NMU track and field at home

MARQUETTE – In its only meet of the season at home, the Northern Michigan University women’s track and field team will host the Northern Challenge Saturday at the Superior Dome.

Field events begin at 12:30 p.m., while running events start at 1:30 p.m. Upper Peninsula rivals Michigan Tech and Lake Superior State will be in attendance.

The meet doubles as senior day for the Wildcats, who will honor Danielle Brzezinski, Xavier Donajkowski, Jasmine King and Catherine Swiderski for their contributions to the program.

Northern placed first at its season opener in December, edging host Minnesota-Duluth by a single point.

Michelle Juergen set a provisional mark in the high jump (5-feet-5) while Shayla Huebner of Marquette (600-meter run, 1:39.71) and Clara Churchill of Gwinn (1,000, 3:21.62) set Wildcat records.

At the Doug Hansen Open two weeks ago, Jasmine Williams improved the provisional mark she set in the weight throw at The Opener, winning with 58-1.

Juergen captured her first high jump crown of the campaign by posting a height of 5-4.25.
