NMU spikers to host two foes

MARQUETTE – Continuing a five-match homestand, the Northern Michigan University volleyball team will host a pair of GLIAC foes this weekend.

The Wildcats of head coach Dominic Yoder (9-2 overall, 1-1 GLIAC) will entertain Lake Erie at 7 tonight and Ashland (Ohio) at 4 p.m. Saturday – both contests at Vandament Arena.

Lake Erie (4-4, 0-2) is coming off a 3-1 win over Notre Dame College on Tuesday. Last season, the Storm fell to NMU in Painesville, Ohio, 3-0.

Ashland (6-4, 1-1) recorded four of its wins this season at the Clarion University Tony Banner Memorial Tournament. In 2014, NMU zipped past the host Eagles 3-1.

The Wildcats rank sixth in the GLIAC with a .219 hitting percentage and are first in kills with 544.

Defensively, Northern has posted 83 blocks and 580 digs.

Individually, NMU’s Alex Berger appears in two GLIAC top-five lists, ranking third in digs (189) and fifth in service aces per set (0.43).

Lisa Studnicka is fifth in the GLIAC with 127 kills while Kayla Chosa is tied for sixth with 117. Teammate Jami Hogeboom is seventh in assists with 310.
