Miners, Sentinels fit to be tied against each other

MARQUETTE — Negaunee and Marquette had just about every kind of result during high school boys tennis matches held this week — a win, a loss and even a tie. After the Sentinels lost a narrow 5-3 decision at Kingsford on Monday, the Miners shut out Gladstone 8-0 on Tuesday. Then on Wednesday when the Marquette County teams got together in Negaunee, the Miners and Marquette played to a 4-4 tie. MENOMINEE — The Marquette Senior High School softball team put together 30 runs in just 10 innings of play in a doubleheader sweep at Menominee on Tuesday. The Sentinels scored 13-3 and 17-3 victories, each game ending after five innings. Charlye Swajanen and Makayla Gustafson pitched five-inning complete games for the triumphs.
