MARQUETTE — Even the men’s Greco-Roman team got in on the fun of a women’s wrestling home meet for the Northern Michigan University teams on Friday at Northern Duals held in Vandament Arena.

While the Wildcat women took part in four dual meets during the day, the men’s Greco-Roman wrestlers also held a dual meet at the same time against Doane University of Nebraska.

Every one of the quartet of meets went the way of the NMU women, as they can only rise from their current No. 10 status in the National Wrestling Coaches Association national poll with a 4-0 record on the day.

Both Northern teams were nearly flawless, the women going 18-1 in contested bouts, while the men were 5-1 in scoring matches and 6-2 overall, including exhibitions, for a 20-7 team victory.

The Wildcats’ Alissa Caltagirone and Sophia Bassino each went 4-0 in their women’s duels.

With every women’s team facing off against every other team, Tiffin was 3-1 in its four meets, Alma 2-2, Carthage 1-3 and Siena Heights 0-4.

Next up for the NMU women is the Midlands Championships in the Chicago suburb of Hoffman Estates, Illinois, next Tuesday.

Here are details from each meet:

NMU 27, Siena Heights 15

In the first meet of the day, Jamie Cook got the Wildcats off to a good start at 124 pounds, needing just 20 seconds to record a pin, then Keaton Hood at 131 raced to a 6-0 lead after one period and secured her technical fall when the score reached 10-0 barely a minute into period No. 2.

A pair of exhibition matches were also held, Santana losing by tech fall in 2:04, while Northern’s Maddox Khalimsky won with a pin in 1:12.
