Mahoski, Sundberg lead Elks’ razor-thin Iron Range victory
ISHPEMING — Shari Mahoski went 4 for 4 and Nichole Sundberg 3 for 3 with a triple to lead the Elks Lodge to a razor-thin 12-11 victory over Paradise Bar in a Class B game of the Iron Range Women’s Softball League played during Week 4 on Wednesday.
For Paradise, Katie Mitchell was 4 for 4 with a homer, Kylie Tobias and Rachel Hytinen both were 3 for 3, and Jen Kela hit a triple.
In another “B” game, Taryn Myers was one of seven players with at least one extra base hit as she clubbed a homer and two triples in Tino’s 29-24 outscoring of Willey’s Tire Shop.
The winners’ Amber Forchini hit a triple and three doubles, Kassy Antilla a triple and two doubles, Lauri Saldana and Alexis Forchini each a pair of doubles, Aspen Tackman a triple and Randi Roose a double.
Willey’s Miranda Cobb chipped in by going 3 for 4.
Winning hurler Becky Gauthier helped her own cause by going 4 for 4 while teammate Siiri Lawson was 3 for 3 as Signs Unlimited scored a 14-9 win over Pineshears, whose Toni Tikkanen was 4 for 4 and Andria Corcoran homered.
And Amy Young went 5 for 5, Becky Moyle 4 for 4 and Joanna Smail hit a triple to pace Quality Car Care to a 20-3 victory over Palomaki Family Chiropractic, whose Mallory Pruett-Shank went 3 for 3, Izzy Prusi 2 for 2 and Val Prusi homered.
In Class A, Hannah Holma, who went 5 for 5, and Nicole Christensen both cranked over-the-fence home runs in Barrel + Beam’s 22-9 triumph over Dave’s Collision-Jack’s, whose Libby Doney was 3 for 4 with a double and Payton Manninen tripled.
Also in “A,” Erika Bjorne and Brittany Singer both went 4 for 5 with two doubles to power Jasper Ridge Brewery to a mercy-rule-shortened 21-6 victory over the Eagles.
The winners’ Amber Emanuelson also went 3 for 4 with a double, while the Eagles’ Laycee Mattson, Liv Negilski and Makenzie Gerding all were 2 for 3.
Katt Beerman and Brittney Rovelsky each went 4 for 5 to lead Congress Pizzas to a 22-13 triumph over Pasquali’s, which was cited for good hitting throughout.
And River Rock downed LaCosse & Associates 11-6.
