Kuzak leads Pasquali’s to opening-night win in IRWL
NEGAUNEE — Cheryl Kuzak went 3 for 4 with four RBIs to lead Pasquali’s to a narrow 19-16 victory over Dave’s Collision-Jack’s Teepee in a Class A game on Wednesday during the opening week of the season for the Iron Range Women’s Softball League.
Teammate Beth Ortman added a double and three RBIs, while Michelle Gray hit a triple. For Dave’s-Jack’s, Loretta Willey tripled and collected six RBIs while Payton Manninen and Heather Moore both clubbed homers.
In another “A” game, LeAnn Saarela went 5 for 5 with a double, Brittany Singer was 4 for 4 with a pair of triples, and Dany Bleau went 4 for 4 with a triple and double as Jasper Ridge Brewery mercy-ruled LaCosse & Associates 27-10.
LaCosse’s Morgan Kowalski was 3 for 3 with two doubles.
Shana Caliguri and Nikki Whitford each were 4 for 4 as Congress Pizzas scored a 27-6 win over the Eagles, whose Des Fernandes hit a three-run homer in the first inning.
And Barrel + Beam was cited for playing all-around good defense in a 21-3 win over River Rock, whose Alyssa Hill tripled and Kenzie Karki doubled.
In Class B, Erin Terzaghi went 3 for 3 and Becca LaChapelle collected two RBIs as Signs Unlimited posted a close 4-3 decision over Elks Lodge, whose Karlie Kargela and Jen Laurila both went 2 for 3.
In other “B” action, Val Prusi homered and Tara Roberts was 4 for 4 in support of winning pitcher Katie Trudgeon as Palomaki Family Chiropractic posted a 16-12 triumph over Willey’s Tire Shop.
Willey’s Amy Williams hit a triple and Chastity Hudson a double.
Veronica Slone blasted a three-run homer and a double, Katelyn Lammi a two-run dinger and a triple, and Amy Williams cranked a triple and two doubles as Quality Car Care outscored Pineshears 29-18.
Pineshears’ Chelsey Wunder hit a homer and triple, while Chelsea Roberts and Livve Denofre each tripled.
Sarah Zindler, Chelsea Belanger and Amber Forchini each hit a double in Tino’s 15-1 win over Paradise Bar, whose Katie Mitchell was 3 for 3 and Jen Hytinen-Polkki was credited with great defense.
