John Paveglio

ISHPEMING, MI John B. Paveglio, age 95, a longtime resident of Ishpeming, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at the Eastwood Nursing Center in Negaunee.

Born in Marquette, MI, on June 24, 1929, John was the son of the late Guido and Mary (Portale) Paveglio. He grew up in Negaunee and proudly enlisted in the United States Navy at a young age, serving as a submariner aboard the USS Seadog in the Pacific following World War II.

John spent much of his career with the Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company, where he retired as superintendent of the Light, Power, and Hydroelectric Division. In that role, he managed the operations of the Steam Plant in Ishpeming, as well as several area dams, including those at Silver Lake Basin, McClure, and Hoist.

A man of many talents, John was especially gifted in woodworking and carving. He enjoyed countless summers in Grand Marais, MI, where he found joy in camping, fishing, and taking on hands-on projects. With a mix of tenacity and a well-known stubborn streak, John earned the affectionate nickname ‘PIA’ – a testament to his determination to get things done his way.

John was a faithful member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ishpeming.

He is survived by his four children: Gary (Kristina) Paveglio of Ishpeming; Kevin (Sue) Paveglio of Georgetown, KY; David J. (Judith) Paveglio of Ishpeming; and Annette (Mark) Epping of Texas. He is also survived by his brother, Jimmy Paveglio of Tennessee; grandchildren Angela (Charles) Combs, Shana (Justin) Kleinschmidt, Sarah (Jake) Mayer, Erik (Katie) Paveglio, and Cory (Heather) Dennis; as well as seven great-grandchildren: William, Sadie, Peyton, Macie, Bauer, Amiah, and Millie, and a plethora of great grand dogs.

John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Miriam, in 2005, along with his siblings Louie Paveglio, Carmelo Paveglio, and Carmen Morrison.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, from 9:30 to 11:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ishpeming.
