NEGAUNEE — Bad weather was intermittent throughout the day Monday and it eventually spoiled play in the Superiorland Baseball League.

With dark clouds surrounding Negaunee’s Irontown Field and thunder rumbling in the distance, Coldwell Banker-Craig Heinonen and the Negaunee Blasters tried to squeeze their game in, but only got through 1 1/2 innings before the game was canceled when rain started to pummel the diamond.

CBCH held a 4-0 lead when the game was called.

CBCH picked up two of its runs in the bottom of the first. After Gabe Daavettila reached base on an error, he came around to score on a fielder’s choice by Steve Daavettila. Shane Johnston then followed with a base hit and two batters later, he scored thanks to a Blasters’ throwing error.

There was no immediate information about when or if this game and others on the night’s schedule will be made up.

The Superiorland League is off for the Fourth of July weekend and will resume play on Monday, July 12. The Blasters will play the Marquette County Mavericks in Negaunee, while CBCH takes on Escanaba in Gwinn.
