By Journal Sports Staff

MARQUETTE – The Northern Michigan University football team has named four captains to lead the squad this season.

Seniors Marcus Tucker, Wyatt Jurasin and Levi Perry will be captains for the second straight season and fellow senior Kyle Steuck will serve as well.

A wide receiver, Tucker was named to the All-GLIAC Second Team last year as well as the Beyond Sports Network All-Region Third Team and the Don Hansen All-Region First Team.

He finished first in the conference with 21.1 yards per catch and was fourth in all-purpose yards with 1,704 for a 154.9 per game average.

Tucker also was seventh in the GLIAC with seven touchdowns.

Steuck, a center, was named to the All-GLIAC Honorable Mention squad and has appeared in 31 out of 32 games for the Wildcats.

As a running back, Jurasin racked up 655 yards rushing in nine games and ran for more than 100 yards in three games with a 135-yard performance against Quincy.

Perry, a linebacker, battled injuries last season appearing in only seven games.

However, he finished third on the team with 5.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. Perry was also sixth on the Wildcats with 22 solo tackles and 23 assisted tackles.

NMU opens its season Sept. 5 at Northwood.
