Cam Rector, Abby Luke earn medalist honors while leading Marquette Sentinels to full sweep of Negaunee Kiwanis Invitational golf meet

CHAMPION — Marquette swept to team and individual titles at the Negaunee Kiwanis Invitational high school golf meet held at the Wawonowin Country Club on Tuesday morning.

Medalist Cam Rector and runner-up Jack Pond led the Sentinels to the boys title by a dozen strokes over team runner-up Houghton, while medalist Abby Luke led MSHS to the girls title by 16 strokes over second-place Calumet.

Rector shot 37-38–75 to win the boys individual crown by two strokes over Pond, who had 39-38–77.

Hancock’s Jackson Sintkowski was third with 79 with the Sentinels’ Caleb Chipelewski (39-42) and Houghton’s Connor Raffaelli and Jack Sayen all tying for fourth with 81s.

The top 10 was rounded out by Negaunee’s Holden Meyer (43-39) and Westwood’s Tanner Annala (41-41) tied for seventh with 82, while Hancock’s Todd Kilpela and Bryce Hanner and Calumet’s Nels Loukus tying for ninth with 83.

Teamwise for the boys, Marquette totaled 318 as the Gremlins were runners-up with 330. Hancock was third with 331, Negaunee fourth with 343, Calumet fifth with 344 and Westwood sixth with 381. West Iron County didn’t field a full team.

Luke rolled to a seven-shot victory for girls medalist honors, putting together nines of 47 and 45 for 92 as the Copper Kings’ Maretta Kangas was second with 99.

Negaunee’ Kennidy Glasheen had 51-50–101 for third, while WIC’s Kya Dallavalle was fourth with 104 and teammate Adi Franzene fifth with 109.

Marquette’s Kai Smith had 57-55–112 for sixth, Calumet’s Olivia Kilpela 119 for seventh, the Sentinels’ Ella Pond 57-64–121 for eighth, Calumet’s Jayanne Kangas 122 for ninth and Houghton’s Maren Pietila 123 for 10th.

Westwood’s top finisher was Kenzie Etelamaki, who had 60-69–129 to place 15th.

In the team standings, Marquette rolled up 450 to win as Calumet was second with 466, WIC third with 481, Negaunee fourth with 491, Houghton fifth with 545 and Westwood sixth with 556.
