NEGAUNEE — With the same Marquette County teams making up major portions of both the West PAC and Mid-Peninsula Conference, there was quite a bit of overlap between the two league’s girls basketball honors when they were recently announced.

That was good news at Negaunee and Ishpeming high schools as each of their “special” award winners in the West PAC won the same award in the M-PC.

That would be Miners’ senior guard Ella Mason as Player of the Year and Hematites’ senior guard Kadie Kaukola as Defensive Player of the Year.

Both conferences include MHSAA Division 4 state champion Ishpeming, MHSAA Division 2 state semifinalist Negaunee, Westwood and Gwinn from Marquette County, along with Iron Mountain.

While the West PAC also includes IM’s neighbor West Iron County and three Copper Country schools — Houghton, Hancock and Calumet — the M-PC instead has Manistique and Gladstone in a direction heading south and east from Marquette County.

Ishpeming just edged out its next-door neighbors for most conference awards with six as Negaunee had five and Westwood four.

For the Hematites, senior guard Jenna Maki and sophomore guard Jenessa Eagle were named First Team, while sophomore forward Mya Hemmer earned Second Team.

Hemmer also won a berth on the Defensive Team, while senior teammate and forward Addison Morton got Honorable Mention.

For Negaunee, junior guard Aubrey Johnson got a spot on both the First Team and Defensive Team, while sophomore guard Callie Rajala won a position with the Second Team.

And junior forward Madison Pekrul made it into Honorable Mention.

Westwood senior guard Megan Marta joined Negaunee’s Johnson with berths on both the First Team and Defensive Team, while Patriots’ junior guard Lexi Olson landed on the Second Team.

And WHS junior guard Izzie Marta earned Honorable Mention.

Gwinn’s lone representative was the only freshman earning M-PC honors, guard Makayla Delmont, earning Honorable Mention.

From Manistique, sophomore forward Danielle Lund earned Second Team and Defensive Team, while Emeralds junior guard Leah Goudreau got Honorable Mention.

Here are the remainder of M-PC honors, with year, position and school:

First Team — Lillie Johnson, soph. guard, Gladstone

Second Team — Emily Copley, soph. forward, Iron Mountain

Defensive Team — Lillie Johnson, soph. guard, Gladstone

Honorable Mention — Macy Linsenbigler, jr. forward, IM; Mayce Hanson, jr. guard, Gladstone
