Trent Rutter leads Superior Central Cougars to 48-35 win at Republic-Michigamme
REPUBLIC — Trent Rutter scored 19 of his game-high 23 points in the second half to lead Superior Central to a 48-35 high school boys basketball victory at Republic-Michigamme on Wednesday evening.
Rutter made seven baskets and went 5 of 5 from the free throw line in the final two quarters as the Cougars (9-2) broke open a game that was tied 20-20 at halftime.
Teammate Logan Frusti added 11 points, all coming in the middle two quarters, while CJ Adams had nine points, including a pair of 3-pointers.
Kenneth Ambuehl led a sharpshooting Hawks’ offense with 14 points that included four triples.
R-M (2-6) made six 3-pointers in all, almost matching the eight 2-pointers it made.
Teammate Fisher Raisanen put in 11 points, including a trey, with another made by Brody Radcliffe.
SC led 8-7 after one quarter before the Hawks tied it at intermission, then the Cougars doubled R-M’s output in the third to take a 38-29 lead entering the final period.
The Hawks host Mid Peninsula at 6 p.m. today, then Ewen-Trout Creek at 6 p.m. Tuesday, while SC travels to Big Bay de Noc at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
