Marquette Redettes softball team comes close to softball split with Kingsford

MARQUETTE — Marquette nearly pulled out a split of a high school softball doubleheader on its Senior Day on Thursday.

After Kingsford piled up the runs late in a 22-7 win in the opener, the Redettes came back but fell short 12-8 in the nightcap.

In Game 1, the Flivvers poured it on with 14 runs in the final two innings, counteracting MSHS’ four runs in the sixth.

Lyndsey Lake went 3 for 3 to lead the Redettes’ nine-hit attack, while teammate Cece Fuller added two hits, Ady Trapani three RBIs and French exchange student Marine Courtin a sacrifice bunt.

Lake took the pitching loss, striking out six and walking one as her defense committed eight errors.

In Game 2, Kingsford used a five-run fourth to clinch the victory as Marquette had four in the fourth and two in the sixth to pull closer.

Halley Haynes had a triple as she and Piper Andrews each finished with three hits among MSHS’ 13. Fuller, who also had a triple, took the loss on the pitching rubber, allowing one run on two hits over 1 2/3 innings without a walk.
