Marquette Redettes lose pair of close high school softball games at Sault Ste. Marie

SAULT STE. MARIE — The Marquette Senior High School softball team lost a pair of games at Sault Ste. Marie on Friday, the nightcap in heartbreaking fashion after the Blue Devils scored the game winner in the bottom of the final inning.

In the end, the Soo posted 7-4 and 7-6 victories.

In Game 1, Layla Roman led MSHS hitters with a double and single as her team scored in the top of the first inning after Cece Fuller’s RBI hit scored Jayden Raymond, according to information emailed by head coach Kyle Johnson.

But the Blue Devils responded with four runs in the third, one in the fourth and two in the sixth by capitalizing on five Redette errors.

Fuller took the pitching loss after teammate Lyndsey Lake started and went three innings on the rubber. Lake struck out six, while Fuller fanned two and walked one in her two innings.

In the second game, a throwing error brought home the Soo’s winning run in walkoff fashion.

Lake took the loss on the rubber, going six innings and K’ing four and walking four as she gave up seven runs on six hits.

Raymond doubled for Marquette, while Anna Melka and Halle Haynes each had a single and Lake collected two RBIs.
