Northern Michigan University nordic women skiers shine in Wisconsin
The Wildcat women tied for the team victory with St. Scholastica in Saturday’s 32-kilometer classic as NMU’s Katerina Hyncicova finished second among collegiate racers and eighth place overall in 1 hour, 45 minutes, 49 seconds.
Teammate Kolibri Drobish was close behind in fourth among collegians and 10th overall in 1:46:49, while NMU’s Lily Brown was fifth and 11th in 1:47:11.
Also for Northern, Lauren McCollor finished 14th overall in 1:50:37 and Pearl Harvey 18th overall in 1:52:17.
The NMU women also won Sunday’s 1.3K classic sprint to capture the overall women’s college title. On this day, Hyncicova and Brown made the semifinal heats with Hyncicova finishing first among collegiate racers and 10th overall, with Brown third collegiately.
Drobish was fifth and McCollor sixth among collegians.
For the Wildcat men, Luke Fricker led the way on Saturday, placing second collegiately and 10th overall in 1:30:29, while teammate Adrik Kraftson was 20th in 1:33:00, Jonathan Clarke 21st in 1:33:02, Cooper Lennox 22nd in 1:33:09 and Hendrik Peterson 25th in 1:33:50.
On Sunday in the sprint, Lennox made the quarterfinals with a 3-minute, 24.73-second finish, coming in 12th overall.
In addition, at the World University Games being held at Lake Placid, New York, and being televised on ESPN channels, Northern men’s skier Kristoffer Karsrud finished fifth in the skate sprint, while NMU teammate Merle Richter was 23rd.
These NMU nordic skiers travel to Duluth, Minnesota, for the Grand Avenue Nordic Central Collegiate Ski Association Invitational on Feb. 4-5.
