KENOSHA, Wis. — With its final runners bunched close together at the finish, the women’s cross country team at Northern Michigan University finished third among eight teams at the Lucian Rosa Invitational hosted by Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday afternoon.

For the second straight race, junior Madison Malon finished first for the Wildcats, coming in fifth on the six-kilometer course in 22 minutes, 57.0 seconds.

That was 37 seconds behind race winner Amanda Montplaisir of Minnesota State-Mankato, who clocked 22:20.7 and led her school to the team title with 26 points. Former GLIAC member Hillsdale was runner-up with 52 points, while NMU had 71 and fourth-place Parkside had 86. Purdue Northwest was fifth, Davenport sixth, Concordia-St. Paul seventh and Trevecca Nazarene eighth.

Northern’s second finisher was Anni Skillicorn in 12th in 23:12.1, which was followed by five teammates finishing between 17th and 24th.

Anna Kelley was 17th in 23:40.2, Elise Longley 18th in 23:44.2 and Chrysanthe Patselas 19th in 23:46.1 to complete their team scoring.

In addition and to add a little insurance to the Wildcats’ cause, Meghan Langworthy was 22nd in 23:51.0, Negaunee High School graduate Talon Prusi 24th in 24:14.8, Emily Sterling 27th in 24:25.9 and Ithaca Bergholtz 28th in 24:28.0.
