Northern Michigan University volleyball cracks NCAA Division II national top 25

MARQUETTE — The Northern Michigan University volleyball team achieved a national top-25 ranking this week for the first time since September 2018.

The Wildcats are No. 24 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association weekly poll in NCAA Division II after having received votes in the three previous polls put out this winter season.

NMU (7-1) is on a seven-match winning streak, most recently at home with a two-match sweep of Northwood last weekend, each win in the minimum three sets.

The Wildcats travel to winless Lake Superior State for matches at 3 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday.

Joining NMU in the rankings from the GLIAC is Michigan Tech (5-1), which is tied for 22nd and also was ranked No. 23 on Feb. 25, though hadn’t cracked the top 25 in the most recent AVCA poll.
