McFarren, Whaley lead MSHS swimmers

MARQUETTE — Freshman Liam McFarren and senior Paige Whaley each had a hand in four victories as the Marquette swimming and diving teams swept Gladstone in a home meet on Wednesday afternoon.

With the teams together winning 22 of 24 events, the Redmen won the boys meet 144-23 and Redettes took the girls meet 132-45.

McFarren won the boys’ 200-yard individual medley in 2:20.01 and had a hand in all three MSHS boys relay wins — the 200 medley, 200 free and 400 free.

Whaley had a similar line in the girls meet, taking the 200 free in 2:08.24 and having a hand in all winning all three relays.

Three-time winners for the boys were senior Wyatt Clement in the 50 free in 26.73, 100 free in 59.70 and swimming a leg in the winning 200 free relay; and freshman Maverick Badwin in the 100 butterfly in 1:17.00 and legs in the victorious 200 medley and 400 free relays.

Triple girls’ winners were sophomore Delaney Marchiol in the 50 free in 28.01, 100 breaststroke in 1:19.99 and a leg of the winning 200 free relay; sophomore Hannah Winn in the 500 free in 5:56.13 and legs of the victorious 200 medley and 400 free relays; and senior Mollie Kilpela, who swam with all three winning relays.

Double winners included freshmen Quinn Kerekes and Mason Doan and sophomore Robert Caron for the boys; and sophomore Ella Whalen and freshman Madeleine Wood for the girls.

Marquette hosts Houghton at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
