Marquette Redettes girls soccer opens season with 0-2-1 weekend downstate

SAGINAW — It was a victory just for the Marquette Senior High School girls soccer team to get on the pitch for the first time this spring over the weekend at the Heritage Hawks Soccer Invitational on Saturday.

It didn’t work out as well in the win-loss column as the Redettes lost a pair of one-goal games and tied a third against Lower Peninsula teams.

Marquette fell to Linden 2-1 and Midland 1-0 before pulling out a 1-1 draw against Auburn Hills Avondale.

Senior captain Lauren Kurzawa scored the MSHS goal against Linden, while sophomore Paige Britton had Marquette’s goal against Avondale.

The Redettes’ JV team went 1-1-1 for the day.

The Marquette varsity team returns to action at Kingsford at 6 p.m. EDT on Tuesday, April 23.
