Marquette Senior High School Redettes girls basketball team bows out in Division 1 regional semifinals

GAYLORD — The season ended Monday night for the Marquette Senior High School girls basketball team at the MHSAA Division 1 regional semifinals held in Gaylord.

The Redettes fell to Midland Dow 49-38 to end their season at 20-4. The Chargers improved to 23-1 and will face Saginaw Heritage (21-2) on Wednesday in Bay City for the regional title.

Dow was ranked No. 4 in the final state Associated Press rankings in Division 1 on March 4, while Heritage was No. 3.

The Chargers showed their mettle as they used a big third quarter to overcome 24-18 halftime lead.

Dow outscored Marquette 19-6 in the decisive period to take a 37-30 headed into the final quarter.

Senior Avery Ledy had a big night in her final game as a Redette, recording team highs of 12 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two blocked shots.

Junior teammate Madison Carter also had eight rebounds.

Another senior, Sydney Kivi, was MSHS’ No. 2 scorer with eight points to go with three rebounds, while junior Aspen Michelin had four assists and four rebounds to go with two points.

And freshman Maria Millado added six points and four rebounds.

Dow was led by senior guard Molly Davis with 26 points, including a 6-for-6 night at the free-throw line. She has committed to play at Central Michigan University.

Senior teammate Maizie Taylor, who will be attending Northwood University, added 11 points.

Marquette made nearly half its shots from the field — 17 of 37 for 46 percent — and snagged 32 rebounds while dishing out 12 assists.
