Marquette, Negaunee, Munising golfers compete in Escanaba

ESCANABA — Three local teams participated in the Escanaba Golf Invitational on Thursday.

Marquette, Negaunee and Munising all competed at the meet held at the Escanaba Country Club and took 4th, 5th and 6th place respectively.

Gladstone took first place in the boys tournament with a team score of 311 while Escanaba finished in the runner-up spot with 321. West Iron County rounded out the podium with a 332 followed by Marquette with 345, Negaunee with 387 and Munising with 492. Menominee competed but didn’t score.

Escanaba took first place on the girls side with a team score of 403 followed by Menominee with 416, Munising with 476, Negaunee with 505, West Iron County with 522 and Marquette, who didn’t score.

Taking first overall on the boys side was Gladstone’s Rudy Peterson who shot a 72 for the round. Escanaba’s Paxton Johnson took the girls individual title with a 77.

On the boys side, Marquette was led by Ethan Sellers who shot an 80 for 6th place overall. Jordan Jurmu shot an 87 for the Redmen while Joseph Luke and Tyler Bergwall each shot an 89.

Negaunee was led by Jordan Mason and Keegan Erva who both shot a 91 on the day.

For Munising, Caden Kienitz led the Mustangs with a 101 while Bailey Masters shot a 109.

On the girls side, Munising’s Sydney Curtis led the local teams placing 9th overall with a score of 113. Morgan Rhodes of Marquette and Munising’s Taylor Downs rounded out the top 10 with 115s.

Negaunee’s Rylee Gustafson led the Miners with a 121, followed by Brylea Ranta with 124 and Rylee Ring with 125.
