Republic-Michigamme boys basketball team upends Lake Linden-Hubbell Lakes, 55-44

REPUBLIC — Jake Carlson scored 23 points to lead the Republic-Michigamme boys basketball team to a 55-44 victory over Lake Linden-Hubbell on Monday night.

Carlson sank 6 of 8 free throws, twice what the Lakes as a whole did at the line (3 of 4).

As a team, the Hawks made 20 of 33 free throws to offset a two-basket deficit to LL-H.

The four other R-M players who scored all put in between seven and nine points, led by Dylan Hanninen with nine points, including 7 of 8 free throws. Caleb Gregoire paced the Lakes with 13 points, while Carter Crouch added 12.

LL-H grabbed a 14-8 lead after one quarter, but the Hawks mounted a comeback, taking a 25-24 lead at halftime. R-M maintained a one-point lead after three quarters, 34-33, before pulling away in the fourth.

The Lakes won the JV game 46-43.

The Hawks are off until Thursday, Jan. 4, when they travel to Bessemer.
