MHSAA seeks student advisers

EAST LANSING — The Michigan High School Athletic Association is seeking sophomores to serve on its Student Advisory Council for the next two school years.

Four boys and four girls from the Class of 2019 will be selected for two-year terms to meet on matters related to maintaining and promoting a proper perspective and sensible scope for high school sports in Michigan.

Eight juniors are completing their first year while eight graduating seniors, including Marissa Immel of Munising, are set to leave at the end of this school year.

To be eligible, candidates must be a current sophomore, complete an official application including responses to three short-answer questions, submit a letter of recommendation from a school administrator, have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, and be available for seven scheduled Sunday meetings at the MHSAA office in East Lansing and a 24-hour leadership camp.

Candidates should show a history of leadership on athletic teams and in other extracurricular activities, community service projects or in the workplace; and show an understanding of the role of school sports and have ideas relating to that.

Applications are due by 4:30 p.m. next Wednesday at the MHSAA office, with the new members notified by April 28. They are available online at https://www.mhsaa. com/Schools/Students/Student-Advisory-Council.
