Houghton girls basketball team bounces Gwinn, 75-25

HOUGHTON — Houghton improved to a perfect 4-0 with a 75-25 defeat of Gwinn Monday in a high school girls basketball game.

Kara Pietila led Houghton with 18 points; Sloane Zenner added 12 points, six steals and five assists.

The Gremlins scored 29 points in the second quarter to break open an 18-8 game after one quarter and go up 47-12 at halftime.

“Houghton is one of the top teams in the U.P., and we didn’t look like one tonight,” Gwinn head coach Ben Olsen said. “We couldn’t handle their transition or their pressure. They were just a better basketball team.”

Brooke Mannor led Gwinn (0-4) with nine points.

Gwinn is off until Wednesday, Dec. 21, when it hosts Escanaba.
