Forest Park forfeits boys basketball game over ineligible player

CRYSTAL FALLS — Forest Park High School has forfeited its season-opening boys basketball win over Mid Peninsula. Forest Park school officials announced Monday that an ineligible player participated in the Dec. 5 game, a 66-48 victory by the Trojans.

Bill Santilli, Forest Park’s first-year athletic director, apologized for the error.

“I’m distraught about this situation but will take responsibility for what happened and, hopefully, move on,” Santilli said.

Forest Park Superintendent Becky Waters, Principal Lisa Olson and Santilli explained the situation in a letter to the media Monday afternoon.

Described as a “transfer rule violation,” the junior has been a lifelong resident of the Forest Park School District but elected to leave for the entire second semester of his sophomore year to be home schooled.

He had attended Forest Park School District for his freshman year and first semester of his sophomore year. The student enrolled at Forest Park for his junior year and joined the football team.
